SSV Risk Profile
As the SSV Network operates within the Ethereum ecosystem, it also shares Ethereum's risk profile.
- Slashing: Double-signing is a slashable offense that can lead to a significant reduction of the validator's deposit.
- Compromised key: If validator keystores are compromised, it can lead to the hijacking of validators, risking network disruption, slashing, and potential loss of rewards or staking deposit.
Our solution
- Prevention of double-signing: A fundamental feature of SSV is its ability to prevent double signing. Each validator cluster is designed not to sign any duty twice, thereby shielding validators from slashing events due to double signing.
- Fragmented keystore security: In the SSV setup, each operator in a cluster holds only a fragment of the full Ethereum signing key. This means that even if an SSV operator's system is compromised, the attacker gains access to only a non-functional piece of the key, which is insufficient to cause any harm.
- Resilience and continuity: The SSV Network maintains normal validator operations even if one out of four operators in a cluster becomes inactive. This resilience not only prevents downtime slashing but also secures ongoing reward accrual, ensuring that the staking process is not disrupted.
