Quickstart Guide

Review the available configuration, protocol requirements and operational risks before using the service. The following guidance explains the main steps.

Secure Infrastructure

Blockshard operates validator and signing infrastructure using access controls, encryption and monitoring. We do not hold customer wallet keys. Direct validator customers control their withdrawal address; StakeWise validators withdraw to the vault contract, with Blockshard's administrative role described in our Terms. These safeguards cannot eliminate downtime, software, smart-contract or slashing risks.

Operational risks and safeguards

Blockshard provides non-custodial validator infrastructure and does not take custody of customer assets. Validator signing permissions are separate from control over withdrawals. Non-custodial operation does not eliminate operational, protocol or smart-contract risks. The following outlines relevant risks and safeguards.

Avail operational risks

  • Validator availability: Outages and operational failures can affect validator participation and rewards. Any resulting penalties are determined by the network protocol.
  • Signing-key security: Compromised validator credentials can disrupt operation or enable unauthorized signing. The consequences depend on the permissions of the affected key and the network protocol.

Operational safeguards and limitations

  • Availability safeguards: Backup infrastructure and controlled failover can reduce downtime. They require correct operation and do not guarantee uninterrupted service.
  • Key permissions: Separating operational permissions from asset-transfer permissions can limit the impact of a compromised key. The applicable permissions depend on the network and service configuration.
